Select a word or phrase to fill the gaps.

✅ Kunci & Pembahasan

1. menu · 2. bill · 3. tip · 4. book · 5. way · 6. exchange · 7. missed

  • book a table (bukan order/buy)
  • tip the waiter = kasih tips
  • exchange = tukar barang-barang; return = kembalikan (minta uang balik)
  • miss a train/bus/connection = ketinggalan (bukan "lose")
💡 Strategi
Tipe ini menguji kolokasi (pasangan kata tetap). Hafalkan: make a decision, take a break, catch/miss the bus, good at, interested in, pay the bill, book a table.

Working from a Coffee Shop

More and more people now work from coffee shops instead of offices. They like the relaxed atmosphere, the free Wi-Fi, and the chance to meet other people. Some workers say they feel more creative when they are surrounded by gentle noise and the smell of coffee.

However, working from a café is not perfect. Tables are often small, and it can be hard to find a power socket for a laptop. During busy hours, it may also be difficult to get a seat. Some café owners are not happy when one customer stays for many hours but buys only one drink.

To solve this problem, a few cafés have started special "work-friendly" rooms. Customers pay a small hourly fee and get a comfortable desk, fast internet, and unlimited coffee. The idea began in large cities such as London and Tokyo, and it is now spreading to smaller towns.

Questions 1–6 — TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN

  • 1Some people feel more creative in a café than in an office.
  • 2All coffee shops offer free Wi-Fi.
  • 3Finding a power socket for a laptop can be difficult in a café.
  • 4Café owners earn more money from customers who stay a long time.
  • 5In "work-friendly" rooms, the coffee is included in the price.
  • 6Work-friendly rooms first appeared in small towns.

Questions 7–10 — Note Completion (ONE WORD ONLY)

  • 7Workers enjoy the relaxed __________ of a café.
  • 8A problem during busy hours is finding a __________.
  • 9In work-friendly rooms, customers pay a small hourly __________.
  • 10The idea started in big cities like London and __________.
✅ Kunci & Pembahasan

1. TRUE · 2. NOT GIVEN (teks tak bilang "all") · 3. TRUE · 4. FALSE (pemilik TIDAK senang) · 5. TRUE (unlimited coffee = termasuk) · 6. FALSE (mulai di kota besar)

7. atmosphere · 8. seat · 9. fee · 10. Tokyo

💡 Kunci T/F/NG
FALSE = teks bilang kebalikannya. NOT GIVEN = teks tidak menyebut sama sekali.
Hati-hati kata mutlak: all / every / always / never / only → sering FALSE atau NOT GIVEN.

The chart shows the number of visitors (in thousands) to a city museum over one week.
MonTueWedThuFriSatSun
4k3k5k6k8k15k14k
✍️ Model Answer (±160 kata)
The chart shows how many people visited a city museum each day during one week. Numbers are given in thousands.

Overall, the museum was much busier at the weekend than on weekdays. The number of visitors was lowest on Tuesday, with only 3,000 people, and slightly higher on Monday at 4,000.

From Wednesday, the figures began to rise steadily. There were 5,000 visitors on Wednesday and 6,000 on Thursday. Friday saw a clear increase to 8,000 people, which was double the Monday figure.

The biggest change happened at the weekend. On Saturday, the museum reached its peak with 15,000 visitors. On Sunday the number fell a little to 14,000, but it was still far higher than any weekday.

In conclusion, visitor numbers grew through the week and were highest on Saturday and Sunday, while the middle of the week was the quietest period.
💡 Struktur wajib

Kata tren: rise, fall, peak, reach, steadily, slightly, double, the lowest/highest. Jangan kasih opini.
Topik: Some people think students should use computers in every lesson. Others believe books are still better. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
✍️ Model Answer (±270 kata)
Technology is now part of everyday life, and many schools want students to use computers in every lesson. While some people support this idea, others believe that traditional books are still more useful. In my opinion, the best approach is to combine both.

On one hand, computers bring clear benefits to the classroom. Students can find information quickly on the internet, watch videos that explain difficult topics, and practise with interactive activities. Computers also prepare young people for the modern workplace, where digital skills are essential.

On the other hand, books also have important advantages. They do not need electricity or internet, so they can be used anywhere. Reading from paper can help students concentrate better, because there are no online distractions such as games or social media. In addition, some students get tired eyes when they look at a screen for too long.

In my view, neither computers nor books should be used alone. Computers are excellent for research and practice, while books are better for deep reading and focus. A balanced classroom would use computers for some activities and books for others.

In conclusion, although computers offer speed and modern skills, books still support concentration. Therefore, schools should not choose one over the other, but use a sensible mix of both to give students the best learning experience.
